Torrential Rains, Unstoppable Disaster
It is reported that vast areas of Mexico have been severely impacted by tropical storms like Priscila and Raymond. With the current official death toll exceeding 64, 65 people missing, and thousands of residents affected, one can only imagine the magnitude of this disaster.
Which Regions Suffered the Most?
The impact of these torrential rains has been particularly severe across several regions, including Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, and Querétaro. According to Laura Velázquez Alzúa, National Civil Protection Coordinator, 29 deaths were reported in Veracruz, 21 in Hidalgo, 13 in Puebla, and 1 in Querétaro. Furthermore, 18 people are missing in Veracruz, 43 in Hidalgo, and 4 in Puebla. My heart aches for those affected.

These torrential rains occurred over a mere four days, from October 6th to 9th. During this period, the amount of rainfall was equivalent to half of the region's annual average. 😱 This highlights the immense damage caused by this record-breaking downpour.

In response to this grave situation, President Claudia Sheinbaum canceled her scheduled visit to the State of Mexico and traveled to the affected areas to express her support. She has also convened an emergency meeting with state governors to focus efforts on managing the situation. Collaboration between the government and local communities is crucial during such times.
