A sudden blizzard recently caused a total of 580 climbers to become stranded in the eastern Everest region of China. 😱 They lost their way at high altitudes above 4,900 meters (approximately 16,000 feet) as heavy snowfall over the weekend completely blocked the climbing routes on the eastern slopes of Everest.
This incident occurred during China's eight-day Golden Week holiday. October is usually considered one of the best months for climbing due to clear weather and mild temperatures, but unexpected severe weather struck.
Emergency Rescue Operation Launched
Fortunately, according to reports from Chinese state media, they were safely rescued and moved to Qudang, a small village in Tibet, and surrounding areas. A total of 300 local guides, yak herders, and other support personnel assisted the 580 climbers. CCTV reported that by the time they reached Qudang village, 300 local support personnel were already present.
