Footprints of Balearic Science: Commemorative Book Honoring Dr. Francesc Bujosa 📖
Last Thursday, at Can Oleo,
a book launch ceremony was successfully held for a work with the extensive title:
‘The History of Science in the Balearic Islands: From the Civil War to the Founding of the University of the Balearic Islands.
A Commemorative Book for the Late Dr. Francesc Bujosa Homar’.
The original title of this book in Catalan is ‘La Història de la Ciència a les Illes Balears;
des de la Guerra Civil fins a la creació de la Universitat de les Illes Balears.
Llibre homenatge al doctor Francesc Bujosa Homar’.
Doesn't the title itself convey a sense of historical depth? 🧐
This magnum opus was brought to life through the collaboration of the
Societat d’Història Natural de Balears (Balearic Natural History Society),
the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB),
and the Reial Acadèmia de Medicina de les Illes Balears (Royal Academy of Medicine of the Balearic Islands).
Edited by Guillem X. Pons and Joan March,
it comprises a total of 18 chapters.
Remarkably, 21 authors contributed their knowledge and insights to its writing,
a truly extraordinary collaboration! 👍
Moving Publication Ceremony: Voices from the Event 🗣️
Several distinguished figures attended the book launch,
adding further significance to the occasion.
The event commenced with Joan Besalduch, President of the Reial Acadèmia de Medicina de les Illes Balears,
highlighting the book's value.
Carles Mulet, Vice-Rector for Economy, Infrastructure, and Campuses at the
Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB), also graced the event.
Joan March, a renowned expert in the history of pharmacy and a pharmacist himself,
and Guillem Pons, a biologist with a Ph.D. from UIB and a professor of Earth Sciences,
participated as editors and key authors, sharing their personal reflections.
Notably, Joan March, as a pharmacist and expert in the history of health,
demonstrated a profound understanding of the book's content.
Guillem Pons, a UIB biologist and Earth Sciences professor, emphasized the academic connection,
linking it to the late Dr. Francesc Bujosa, who was both a physician and a history professor,
thus deepening the significance of this tribute.
I truly want to applaud the efforts of these individuals. 👏
This book will provide answers to intriguing questions,
such as how science has evolved throughout the history of the Balearic Islands
and which individuals contributed to its progress.
It makes one realize anew how crucial past knowledge is for understanding the present and shaping the future.
Perhaps we could pay a little more attention to the historical footprints around us? 😊
We hope that this valuable record of the scientific history of the Balearic Islands
will inspire many and open new horizons of knowledge.
It would be wonderful if more such meaningful books were published
to help broaden our understanding of the world we inhabit.
We would be grateful if you too would take an interest in this book!
I will return with more interesting news next time! Goodbye! 👋
