Recently, I learned about a very significant event held at the Birmingham VA Health Care System. To commemorate National POW/MIA Recognition Day on September 19th, they unveiled a permanent 'Missing Man Table' exhibit. This exhibition goes beyond simply displaying objects; it symbolizes the history and sacrifices we must all remember.

The completion of this noble exhibit was made possible by the warm support of the local community. It was achievable thanks to the generous donations from Kelly Ingram VFW Post 668. Furthermore, the skilled craftsmanship and meticulous efforts of the VA engineering team further enhanced the brilliance of this exhibit. 👍

Reflecting on the Meaning of the 'Missing Man Table'

The newly unveiled 'Missing Man Table' felt as though those who should be present were indeed with us. Various items symbolizing prisoners of war and the missing are placed on the table. Through this exhibit, thousands of veterans, visitors, and staff entering and exiting the facility each year will be reminded that freedom is never a given, and that there were those who paid the price for it.

Dr. Cynthia Cleveland, Interim Medical Center Director at the Birmingham VA Health Care System, emphasized the importance of this exhibit, stating, "This 'Missing Man Table' exhibit serves as a perpetual reminder to the thousands of veterans, visitors, and staff who come through this facility each year of those we must never forget. We must never forget those who were taken prisoner or went missing in service to our country and for our freedoms." Her words deeply resonate with us.
