Never miss insights like this - delivered every morning

Recently, Jenna Bush Hager shared her profound reflections on homework assigned to her daughter Mila through her parenting essay-style newsletter, 'Voices at the Table' (dated October 6th).

'I Want to Meet Mom When She Was My Age'

Mila's assignment was to 'freely write about whatever you want to write.' However, what the 12-year-old Mila wrote was enough to move not only Jenna but also many who heard this news.

According to what Jenna shared, Mila wrote down the following wishes:

'I wish the world was peaceful. I wish all the scary things were fake.'

She then added:

'I want to meet Mom when she was my age.'

Upon seeing this phrase, Jenna confessed, 'She wrote it so deeply,' and 'I cried.' 🥺

Pure Wishes for the World and a Special Hope

Mila's homework didn't end there. She also shared a cute imagination of wanting to find seaweed of a color never discovered before in the ocean, and a fun wish to be able to fall asleep whenever she wants and lie on hot sand without getting burned.

Seeing her daughter's homework, Jenna found herself reflecting on what she thought about when she was 12. She wondered if she had worried about the world's difficulties as much as Mila does.

Jenna also has two other children, Poppy, who is 10, and Hal, who is 6. Mila's homework this time seems to have provided her with an opportunity to re-examine her children's growth and their perspectives on the world.

How Can We Read Our Children's Hearts?

Our children sometimes fall into deep thought or surprise adults with unexpected questions, don't they? 😮 Jenna Bush Hager's story makes us realize once again how diverse and profound the thoughts residing within our children's minds are, and how their innocence and wisdom, sometimes overlooked by adults, can resonate so deeply.

Have your children ever expressed their feelings through a special writing or drawing? It would be wonderful if you could share your precious experiences in the comments! 😊
