Hello everyone! Today I want to share a truly fascinating scientific discovery with you all. I became really interested after seeing this news. 😉

For a long time, we've believed that air-drying our hair is the best method. Do you also try to avoid using a hair dryer as much as possible, just like me, and insist on air-drying your hair every time?

Are Hair Dryers Truly the 'Devil' for Your Hair? 👿

Dermatologist Leire Barrutia shared some interesting research findings on her Instagram account. According to this study, hair dryers themselves are not the primary cause of hair damage. Instead, it emphasizes that 'how' we use them is far more important.

What is the 'Optimal Way to Use a Hair Dryer' According to Science? 🔬

Dr. Barrutia commented, "You probably also thought air-drying would be better," adding, "However, science indicates that using a hair dryer correctly is actually better." So, what is the correct way to use it?

The research findings suggest that the key to drying hair without causing damage lies in 'air temperature' and 'distance.' Dr. Barrutia advised, "It's important to no longer use hot air and to maintain a distance of about 15 cm from the hair." (Refer to Ana San Vicente's article as of September 25, 2025 - 6:00 PM KST)

When you think about it, prolonged exposure to very hot air at close range would naturally dry out and damage hair, right? Much like how hot air feels irritating on the skin.

Is Air-Drying Always the Answer? 🤔

So, does air-drying offer no benefit at all? Not entirely. In humid environments or when exposed to cold air for extended periods, hair can actually swell, causing the cuticle to open and become damaged. Furthermore, wrapping wet hair in a towel for too long is also not recommended.

Ultimately, whether you use a hair dryer or air-dry, 'how' you do it is what matters. Could our incorrect usage habits be the source of the problem?

Small Practices for Healthy Hair ✨

  • Use lukewarm or cool air: Instead of hot air, dry your hair with lukewarm or cool settings.
  • Maintain proper distance: Do not hold the hair dryer too close to your hair. Keeping a distance of at least 15 cm is recommended.
  • Gentle towel drying: When drying your hair, do not rub with a towel. Instead, pat your hair gently to remove moisture.
  • Dry partially: Drying to about 80-90% instead of 100% can help reduce hair damage.

Based on the scientific information shared today, why not try using your hair dryer more wisely from now on? Your small changes will lead to healthier, shinier hair! 💖
